Description
It was by pure chance that Wen Yifan became housemates with Sang Yan, whom she had rejected during high school. Normally, they lived their lives separately, as if they were two strangers living under the same roof. But the peace was disrupted one morning. The night before, Wen Yifan was still sleeping in her room, but she found herself waking in Sang Yan’s bed the next day. Aware that she sleepwalked from time to time, Wen Yifan could only apologize and put it away as her fault. However, when the situation repeated again and again, she tried to suggest locking his door before he heads to sleep… Sang Yan dismissed the idea, saying, “You’d just pick the lock.” Wen Yifan tried her best to keep her composure. “Why in the world would I be able to do that?” “Well…” Sang Yan lifted his eyes and drawled, “is there anything you wouldn’t do to climb onto my bed?” After an awkward pause, Wen Yifan smiled. “OK, then go ahead and try.” Now that caught Sang Yan by surprise.

My Thoughts on First Frost
"First Frost" is a web novel that completely swept me off my feet, and I found myself utterly engrossed in the lives of Wen Yifan and Sang Yan. It's a story of reconnection, healing, and unwavering love that I didn't want to put down.
First Impressions
Initially, I wasn't entirely sold. The beginning felt a little slow, and I wasn't immediately drawn to either of the main characters. However, I persevered, and I'm so glad I did. As the story progressed, the layers of the characters were slowly peeled back, revealing depths and complexities that completely captivated me.
What Works Well
What truly shines in "First Frost" is the character development, particularly that of Wen Yifan. Her journey from a traumatized and guarded young woman to someone who learns to trust and love again is both heartbreaking and inspiring. The novel delves into her past, revealing the reasons behind her insecurities and her difficulty in forming close relationships. I found myself completely invested in her growth and eager to see her find happiness.
Sang Yan, with his confident and somewhat narcissistic personality, might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I found him incredibly endearing. Underneath his arrogant exterior lies a deep and unwavering love for Wen Yifan. His actions speak louder than words, and I loved seeing the subtle ways he cared for her, even before they officially got together. The slow-burn romance was beautifully executed, allowing their feelings to develop naturally and authentically. The humor sprinkled throughout the story was a welcome addition, providing moments of levity amidst the heavier themes. The side characters, while not extensively developed, served their purpose in pushing the main romance forward.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed "First Frost," I can see how some might find certain aspects less appealing. The repetitive nature of some interactions, particularly early on, could be a drawback for readers seeking a faster-paced plot. Also, if you're not a fan of slice-of-life stories, this might not be the novel for you, as it focuses more on the characters' daily lives and their emotional journey than on dramatic plot twists.

Final Verdict
Despite a few minor flaws, "First Frost" is a truly remarkable novel that I highly recommend. The well-developed characters, the heartwarming romance, and the exploration of complex emotional themes make it a worthwhile read. If you're looking for a story that will make you laugh, cry, and ultimately believe in the power of love and healing, then give "First Frost" a try. I'm confident you won't be disappointed.
