"Even the Beautiful Blind Airhead Needs to Be a Cannon Fodder?" is definitely a ride! It's one of those stories where the premise might seem familiar, but the execution really makes it stand out. I went in expecting a typical transmigration story, but I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the characters and the emotional impact it had on me.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a bit unsure about the MC. He's introduced as this scheming, seemingly clueless character, and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to connect with him. However, the author slowly reveals the layers beneath the surface, showing us a vulnerable and deeply traumatized individual who's just trying to survive. It's a testament to the writing that I quickly went from skeptical to completely rooting for him.
What Works Well
The characterization is definitely the strongest aspect of this novel. The MC is flawed, petty, and sometimes acts like a victim, but that's exactly what makes him so compelling. His tragic backstory and the way he uses his "white lotus" persona as a defense mechanism really resonated with me. I also loved the system; it's not just some generic AI, but a genuinely caring presence that acts like a parental figure to the MC.
The romance, while perhaps not the most original, is still very sweet and heartwarming. The ML is the typical rich and powerful type, but he's also incredibly patient and understanding, allowing the MC to be his true self. I also enjoyed the family dynamics, particularly the relationship between the MC and his "fake" brother. It was refreshing to see a non-villainous character in that role.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story overall, there were a few things that bothered me. The plot can feel a bit repetitive at times, with the MC constantly falling into the ML's lap and being rescued from every difficult situation. This made the story a bit too easy and lacking in real tension. Also, the ML's family revenge plot felt underdeveloped and rushed.
