Description
The protagonist, Soma Yagami, is a negative high school boy aiming for a peaceful and comfortable life. He is thoroughly avoiding troublesome things like club activities, love, and friendship. “All I need is the academic ability to become a civil servant, all other factors are unnecessary.” However, one day, he was cursed with [Forced Youth Option] that only allows him to take positive actions. It brings disaster if he disobeys it. Because of the curse, Soma is forced to approach three sisters and join their club activities. First Impressions
The early chapters are genuinely funny. The concept of a protagonist forced into making absurd choices with hilarious consequences is gold. I was immediately drawn in by the sheer ridiculousness of the scenarios, and the author's ability to create humor from the MC's reluctant participation in "youthful" activities. It felt like a comedic dating sim come to life, and I was eager to see where it would go.
What Works Well
The humor in the first half is definitely a strong point. The ridiculous choices and the MC's reactions had me laughing out loud. I also appreciated the initial character development, seeing the protagonist slowly evolve as he's pushed outside his comfort zone. The premise is unique, and the execution in the beginning is solid, making it an entertaining read.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the novel seems to take a nosedive around the halfway point. Several readers noted a significant shift in tone, moving away from the lighthearted comedy and slice-of-life elements towards a more serious, even tragic, direction.
