Description
In college, Zhou Jingze and Xu Sui were very different from each other— their paths would never cross. One was a free spirit, a moon surrounded by a myriad of stars. The other was a well-behaved and quiet girl, easy to be ignored. As she finished her assignments one after another in the library, she had no intention to listen to matters regarding him and others. Yet, she had witnessed him changing girlfriends one after another. At a party, Xu Sui was drunk and summoned up the courage to confess to him. Zhou Jingze froze for a moment, then raised the corners of his lips and said casually: “I’m sorry, you are too well-behaved and quiet.” They met again, countless times, whether it was intentionally or unintentionally. Xu Sui should have pushed down her thoughts and kept a distance from him. Yet, he kept pressing, leaving her nowhere to hide. Finally, Xu Sui was against a wall: “Why me?” Zhou Jingze lowered his head and whispered to her: “There is no why; I used to be blind.”

My Thoughts on Confession (Ying Cheng)
"Confession (Ying Cheng)" is a novel I went into with mixed expectations, and honestly, it delivered a similarly mixed experience. It's a story of enduring love, missed connections, and personal growth, but it’s also one that stumbled in certain areas.
First Impressions
The beginning definitely hooked me. The story jumps between the present and their college days, and I found this approach intriguing. I immediately wanted to know how these characters ended up where they are. I was drawn to the female lead, Xu Sui, and her long-held crush on Zhou Jingze. He seemed charismatic but with a hidden depth, a classic trope that I usually enjoy.
What Works Well
I appreciated the exploration of their relationship, especially the early days in college. The author does a good job of portraying the complexities of young love, the insecurities, and the misunderstandings that can easily arise. The writing style is engaging, making it easy to imagine the scenes and connect with the characters' emotions. I particularly enjoyed the angst during their separation, which felt realistic and relatable.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed much of the story, I did find some aspects frustrating. The female lead's actions sometimes felt illogical, and her constant rejection of the male lead, despite his obvious affection, grew tiresome. I also felt the story leaned a little too heavily on misunderstandings to drive the plot forward.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Confession (Ying Cheng)" is a decent read, especially if you enjoy stories with a mix of cute college romance and angsty separations. However, the frustrating misunderstandings and the somewhat disappointing ending prevent it from being a truly great novel. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's worth checking out if you're in the mood for a mature slice-of-life romance, but be prepared for some frustrating moments along the way.
