My Thoughts on Blindness
Okay, let's dive into "Blindness," the omegaverse novel that's been making the rounds. I went in with an open mind, ready to be swept away by some romance, and overall, I wasn't disappointed. It's definitely a comfort read, something you pick up when you want a fluffy escape.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, I noticed the story leans heavily into omegaverse tropes. We've got the ridiculously perfect alpha male lead (ML), who just happens to be blind, and the sweet, slightly naive omega male character (MC) with a mountain of debt. If you're familiar with the genre, you know the drill. It felt familiar, almost too familiar.
What Works Well
Despite the tropes, "Blindness" has a certain charm. The writing is solid, and the translation is well done. The relationship between the alpha and omega is genuinely endearing, and the author does a good job of making you root for their happiness. One of the biggest strengths is the ML himself. He's a total simp for the MC, which is incredibly refreshing. There's a lot of doting and sweetness, and the misunderstandings, while present, tend to get resolved fairly quickly. This avoids the drawn-out angst that can sometimes plague these types of stories. The lack of an "insufferable a**hole" ML is a huge win in my book.
Areas of Concern
While the novel's predictability is comforting for some, it might be a drawback for others. If you're looking for groundbreaking plot twists and unique character dynamics, this might not be your cup of tea. It's very much "comfort food" in novel form – enjoyable, but not necessarily pushing any boundaries. Also, the reliance on common tropes like shady family members and class divides to create conflict can feel a bit overdone at times.
Final Verdict
Overall, I'd give "Blindness" a solid recommendation, especially if you're a fan of omegaverse stories and enjoy a sweet, relatively low-angst romance. It's not going to blow your mind with originality, but it's a well-executed example of the genre that delivers on its promises. I'd say it's a solid 3.5/5 stars. Perfect for a cozy night in!
