Description
Marquess Rebecca Howard remembered her previous life on the day before the graduation ceremony of the Royal Remus Academy. Apparently, this is an otome game (supposedly in a magical world) where the heroine is Baroness Charlotte Silva, a candidate for the saint, and Rebecca is a villainess who stands in her way. When Rebecca realizes she’s been reincarnated into another world, she takes advantage of the condemnation event and manages to break off her engagement to His Highness Prince Garrett. Her goal is to return to her domain and live a comfortable single life, because she still loves her husband from her previous life… but things take an unexpected turn! There are some events that are typical of an otome game, but the outcome takes a turn for the worse, so please be careful if you are expecting a classic story.

My Thoughts on Akuyaku Reijō (Kari) No Funtō
After diving into "Akuyaku Reijō (Kari) No Funtō," I've found myself pleasantly surprised by its depth and engaging narrative. While the villainess trope initially drew me in, the story quickly evolved into something far more intricate and captivating. It’s a novel that's easy to get lost in, despite a few minor hiccups along the way.
First Impressions
At first glance, the story presents itself as another take on the popular villainess trope. However, it quickly becomes apparent that this is more of a launchpad than the central theme. The initial setup serves as a means to introduce the characters and establish the world before delving into a more complex plot. I found this subversion of expectations refreshing.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is the mature and level-headed protagonist. She's not bogged down by low-IQ tropes and possesses a remarkable understanding of her situation and the people around her. Her ability to navigate complex relationships, even with a tsundere shadow and a somewhat traitorous little brother, is commendable and makes her a compelling character to follow. The multiple points of view are also a major plus, offering a broader perspective on the unfolding events and enriching the overall storytelling experience. The plot itself is thick with intrigue, and the behind-the-scenes maneuvering keeps you guessing.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, there were a few aspects that gave me pause. There are times when plot points feel somewhat rushed or glossed over. I noticed that certain conflicts are resolved rather quickly, leaving me wanting a bit more depth and explanation. Additionally, while the characterization is strong for the main characters, some of the supporting cast could benefit from further development.

While there are a few minor pacing issues, the strengths of the story far outweigh its weaknesses. I'm eager to continue following the translation and see where the story goes next. It's definitely a novel that has exceeded my initial expectations.
