"Zombies Are My Mom Fans [Post-Apocalypse]" is definitely a unique title, and after diving in, I can say the story is just as unconventional. It blends action, adventure, comedy, drama, romance, and the supernatural in a post-apocalyptic world, and while it might not be exactly what the title suggests, it offers a refreshing twist on the zombie genre.
First Impressions
I'll admit, the title led me to expect a lighthearted, comedic romp. And while there are definitely humorous moments, the story has a surprisingly serious undertone. The FL's past life experiences paint a grim picture of humanity, and the narrative doesn't shy away from darker themes. It's an apocalypse, after all, and the story reflects that.
What Works Well
Despite the initial tonal surprise, I found myself drawn into the story. The FL is a fascinating character – a complex mix of cold indifference and surprising innocence. Her ability to control zombies is intriguing, and the dynamic between her and the zombie horde is certainly a highlight. The male lead, while having a significant age gap with the FL, is portrayed as gentle and kind, providing a much-needed contrast to the harsh world. The supporting characters, including a reincarnated doctor and a "father wanna be", add depth and humor to the story. What I particularly appreciate is the relative lack of constant violence. While there are action scenes, the story focuses more on healing, emotional moments, and surprisingly funny interactions, especially those involving the zombies.
Areas of Concern
One aspect that left me wanting was the ending. Some plot points felt unresolved. The origin of the FL's powers remained a mystery, and certain character arcs felt abruptly cut short. Some side characters didn't get proper closure.
