Description
In the end Xiao Rong traveled back in time and became the advisor to a warlord during an era of contending heroes. This warlord was stubborn, refused advice, was overly sensitive and suspicious, prioritized military affairs over civil ones, and most importantly, was brutal and bloodthirsty. Xiao Rong had to assist him because his life was bound to the warlord’s by a system that detected their matching energy fields. Xiao Rong’s well-being depended on the warlord’s fortune—when the warlord’s luck declined, Xiao Rong would cough up blood and need medication. Thus, the palace became a scene of vivid spectacles: When the warlord wanted to execute a righteous minister, Xiao Rong clutched his chest to stop him: “Your Majesty, you must not!” When the warlord wanted to release a pleading enemy, Xiao Rong, pale-faced, intervened: “Your Majesty, you must not!” When the warlord wanted to massacre surrendered captives and innocent families, Xiao Rong, spitting blood, grabbed his sleeve: “Your Majesty, you must not!” Eventually, the warlord became psychologically scarred by Xiao Rong’s blood-spitting episodes and started listening to him in everything, fearing that any displeasure would cause Xiao Rong to die. The obedient warlord turned into a wise ruler, and the empire was within reach. Xiao Rong stood satisfied on the city tower, overlooking the vast lands. At that moment, a hand reached for his waist. Xiao Rong: “Your Majesty, you must not!!!” Look at how many exclamation marks I used, you idiot! However, the warlord examined his face and concluded: “No blood, so it’s okay.” Xiao Rong: “…”

My Thoughts on Your Majesty, You Mustn’t!
"Your Majesty, You Mustn’t!" is a wild ride through ancient China, filled with political intrigue, romantic tension, and characters that are as flawed as they are fascinating. I went into this novel expecting a typical historical romance, but I found something much more complex and engaging.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise: a modern-day individual transmigrating into the body of a court official tasked with turning a reckless tyrant into a worthy emperor. The comedic undertones, especially in the beginning, made for a lighthearted start. However, I quickly realized that this story has a depth that goes beyond simple humor.
What Works Well
The core of this novel lies in its characters, particularly the two leads. Xiao Rong, the cunning protagonist, is a joy to read. He's prideful, petty, and has a sharp tongue, but he's also intelligent and genuinely cares for the people. The male lead, Qu Yunmie, is a ruthless war general, and their interactions are full of sparks and tension. Watching them grow and influence each other is incredibly rewarding, with their bickering dynamic feeling like an old married couple. The side characters are also well-developed, with their own unique personalities and motivations.
The political intrigue is also well-done. It's not overly complicated, making it easy to follow, but it's still engaging and adds depth to the story. The slow-burn romance is another highlight. It's satisfying to see their relationship develop from animosity to love, and the author does a great job of portraying their feelings and vulnerabilities.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, I can see why some readers might have issues with the protagonist. Xiao Rong's initial arrogance and tendency to look down on the people of the past, as well as his treatment of the ML, may be off-putting to some. While he does undergo character development, his flaws are definitely present throughout the story. Some readers may find the misunderstandings and back-and-forth between the MC and ML in the second half annoying.

Final Verdict
Despite some flaws, "Your Majesty, You Mustn’t!" is a captivating historical romance with well-developed characters, engaging political intrigue, and a satisfying slow-burn romance. If you're looking for a story with flawed characters that go through genuine growth and development, I highly recommend giving this novel a try.
