"Villain Alpha is Pregnant" is quite the rollercoaster, a blend of genres that sometimes thrills and sometimes leaves you scratching your head. It's a story with a unique premise that unfortunately stumbles in its execution.
First Impressions
The beginning definitely hooked me. The MC's transmigration from an apocalyptic world into a novel, complete with psychic powers and a handsome male lead, was intriguing. The entertainment industry storyline also seemed promising. I was ready for a fun, fresh take on the ABO genre.
What Works Well
The core relationship between the MC and ML is undeniably a strong point. Their interactions, especially the "cuteness" factor, are often mentioned as a highlight. I found myself enjoying the moments of tenderness and the unconventional dynamic between them. The idea of flipping the script, with the alpha ML getting pregnant, is also a bold and interesting choice. Some readers also appreciated the character of Bai Huaiyu, the original novel's villain, finding him complex and intriguing.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel suffers from a serious case of genre whiplash. It tries to juggle too many elements—entertainment industry drama, military conflicts, revenge plots, royal family intrigue, and even a touch of mecha battles. This results in a disjointed narrative with numerous plot holes and inconsistencies. The pacing is also a major issue, with the story feeling rushed and underdeveloped, especially towards the ending. Character motivations and actions sometimes feel illogical, and the overall world-building lacks depth. I also felt that the author introduced plot points and subplots that were quickly forgotten. The constant misunderstandings between the MC and ML became frustrating.

"Villain Alpha is Pregnant" has a lot of potential, but ultimately falls short due to its unfocused plot, rushed pacing, and underdeveloped world-building. While the central relationship and unique premise offer some enjoyment, the numerous flaws make it a frustrating read. I'd recommend it with caution, primarily to readers who are willing to overlook its shortcomings for the sake of the central couple and the unusual ABO dynamic.
