"Unattended Marriage" is a rollercoaster of emotions, and despite some elements that aren't usually my cup of tea, I found myself surprisingly engrossed. It's a story about finding love and strength in the most unexpected places, even if the journey is paved with some questionable decisions and a whole lot of angst.

First Impressions

Initially, I was wary. The omegaverse setting, the themes of adultery, and the mention of a timid MC almost made me pass. However, the consistent praise for the ML and the promise of character growth piqued my interest. I dove in, bracing myself for potential frustration, but hoping for a compelling narrative.

What Works Well

The heart of this novel lies in the relationship between the MC, Ye Zhi, and the ML, Huo Youqiao. Ye Zhi's journey from a mistreated, almost doormat-like character to someone who finds his voice and stands up for himself is genuinely moving. The ML is a breath of fresh air; a kind, supportive, and incredibly patient alpha who sees Ye Zhi's worth when no one else does. I loved how their relationship developed gradually, with genuine care and understanding.

I also appreciated that the author didn't shy away from the complexities of the situation. The ex-husband, Huo Youcheng, is truly awful, and I felt no sympathy for him. The narrative doesn't try to excuse his behavior, and I was relieved the MC didn't end up forgiving him. The side characters, while sometimes frustrating (especially the MC's family), all contribute to the overall drama and emotional impact of the story. The smut scenes were well-written and added to the tension between the leads.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed the novel overall, there were a few things that bothered me. The MC's initial timidity could be grating at times, and I felt like the story occasionally dragged on. Some plot points, like the MC getting framed at work, felt more like convenient plot devices than organic developments. The ending also felt a bit rushed.

Despite its flaws, "Unattended Marriage" is a compelling and emotionally resonant read. The strong character development, the satisfying romance, and the cathartic revenge against the awful ex-husband make it a worthwhile experience.
