Description
Miss Cheng Yaoyao transmigrated into a period novel, becoming a female villain who shares her name. Cheng Yaoyao thought: It doesn’t matter! As long as I’m beautiful, I’ll always be at the top of the food chain! But the conditions in the 1970s countryside were terrible, and the labor was grueling. The delicate young lady could hurt her hands just pulling out a weed, and she soon found herself crying as she faced the harsh reality. Xie San, the son of a landlord, was a gloomy, aloof, and cruel man. The villagers avoided him as much as possible. Recently, he’s been a bit troubled: the beautiful lady Cheng Yaoyao keeps pestering him—she’s troublesome and squeamish. Cheng Yaoyao thought: As long as I can deal with the future big boss, I’ll stay at the top of the food chain! Brief: Xie San cornered the delicate young lady in a cornfield, his eyes cold and fierce. “Why are you pestering me? What do you want?!” Cheng Yaoyao confidently replied, “I just need a little bit of Yang energy. Forget it if you won’t give it to me.” Xie San: “…I’ll give it to you.” Cheng Yaoyao, doubting her life: Is this what you call just a little bit?

My Thoughts on Transmigrated as the Delicate Beauty in the 1970s
"Transmigrated as the Delicate Beauty in the 1970s" offers a charming escape into a world of rural China with a modern twist. The premise, a transmigration story with a beautiful and resourceful female lead, immediately grabbed my attention, and for a good portion of the novel, it held it quite well.
First Impressions
The initial chapters, focusing on the "educated youth" phase and the budding romance between the FL and ML, were definitely the strongest. I found myself completely invested in their interactions, especially the "stolen sweet moments" that made me feel giddy. The contrast between the spoiled yet caring FL and the stoic ML created a dynamic that was both entertaining and heartwarming.
What Works Well
The character of the female lead is a major highlight. She's not your typical Mary Sue; she's got flaws, she's squeamish, and she's a bit spoiled, but she's also incredibly caring and adaptable. Watching her navigate the challenges of the 1970s with her modern knowledge and the help of her mysterious "golden finger" (a spiritual lotus with some… interesting side effects) was a lot of fun. The ML, while initially a bit of a "block of ice," develops nicely, and I appreciated seeing him strive to better himself.
⚠️ ### Spoiler Warning
(Proceed with Caution!)
The spiritual lotus, while a fun plot device, does lead to some… ahem… interesting situations. It turns our FL into a coquettish vixen, which drives the ML wild. Some readers might find this aspect a bit much, and I can see how it might not appeal to everyone.
There are also some issues with the FL's behavior later in the story, particularly during the "movie arc." Her actions felt inconsistent with her established character, and it was frustrating to see her treat the ML inconsiderately.
Areas of Concern
While the beginning was strong, the pacing becomes an issue as the story progresses. The middle section, particularly before the college entrance exams, felt dragged out. Then, once they reach university and get married, the pacing becomes rushed and stagnant simultaneously, leaving the plot feeling somewhat aimless. I also found the FL to be quite inconsiderate to the ML during the movie arc.
Final Verdict
"Transmigrated as the Delicate Beauty in the 1970s" is a mixed bag. It has a captivating premise, engaging characters, and some genuinely heartwarming moments. However, pacing issues and some questionable character choices in the later arcs hold it back from being a truly outstanding read. If you're looking for a lighthearted transmigration story with a strong focus on romance and don't mind a bit of a bumpy ride, it might be worth checking out. Overall, I'd give it a tentative 3 out of 5 stars.
