"The Villainness Has Entered The Doting Route" promised a fresh take on the well-trodden villainess trope, and after diving in, my experience has been mixed. It's a story with definite potential, but also some stumbling blocks that held me back from fully enjoying it.

The initial premise is familiar: reincarnation into an otome game as the villainess, determined to avoid a bad ending. However, I quickly found myself wondering if this novel would offer something truly unique. While the early chapters establish the setting and the protagonist's goals, I was left wanting more in terms of originality.
What Works Well
Despite my reservations, the world-building intrigued me. The author seems to be taking their time to flesh out the intricacies of the world, and I appreciate that the story is more plot-driven than romance-focused, at least for now. The characters, aside from the protagonist, are also interesting. I'm genuinely curious about their backstories and motivations. The relationship between the MC and her brother is also a highlight, adding a heartwarming dynamic to the story. There's a certain charm in seeing their sibling bond develop amidst the magical and aristocratic setting.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue is with the protagonist herself. I struggled to connect with her due to her inconsistencies. She declares her intention to avoid the capture targets, yet constantly finds herself embroiled in their affairs. This contradiction made it hard for me to root for her. Her reactions to the male leads sometimes felt exaggerated and unrealistic, making it difficult to believe in her supposed past life as a working woman. The pacing can also be slow at times, with excessive internal monologues that stall the story's progress.
