Description
Every city has malice and grievances which cannot be eliminated, and the place where they gather is the city’s chasm. While it might not be for everyone, I found myself drawn into the eerie atmosphere and the intriguing relationships between the characters.
First Impressions
Right from the start, I was captivated by the premise. A private hospital with a dark past, mysteries buried in old records, and a main character with amnesia? Sign me up! The short length of the novel also appealed to me, as I knew I could dive in and get a complete story without a massive time commitment. I was ready for some chills and thrills, and this novel definitely delivered.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect of this story, in my opinion, is the way the mysteries unfold. The MC and ML have to solve cases by reading old records, it was such a unique way to move the plot along. The author does a great job of creating a sense of suspense and unease, immersing you in the world of the hospital. The romantic subplot, while slow-burn, adds another layer of depth to the story. I really enjoyed the interactions between the MC and ML, and even the side couple was a delightful addition.
Areas of Concern
I do have to admit that the ending left me a bit conflicted. It's an open ending, which, while fitting for the overall tone of the novel, didn't quite satisfy my desire for closure. While some might appreciate the ambiguity, I personally prefer a more definitive resolution. This is just my personal preference, though, and I can see how the open ending could work for others.
