This novel certainly had me on a rollercoaster! It’s a fluffy BL story at its heart, but some elements left me feeling conflicted. Overall, it's a light and easy read, but it's not without its flaws.
First Impressions
I was drawn in by the promise of a sweet college romance with an androgynous MC and a seemingly straight, very devoted love interest. The initial chapters delivered on that promise, introducing a beautiful dancer and a flustered, almost puppy-like ML. The premise is fun, and the beginning is genuinely engaging.
What Works Well
The fluff factor is definitely high with this one. Many readers praised the lightheartedness and the sweet dynamic between the main characters. I particularly enjoyed the initial confusion and denial from the ML, who is convinced he's straight despite his obvious infatuation with the MC. The MC's calm and elegant personality also adds a nice contrast to the ML's more boisterous behavior. I found their interactions quite endearing, especially the ML's constant blushing and stuttering. The author does a good job of building the tension and making you root for them to get together.
Areas of Concern
While the fluff is enjoyable, I also noticed some potentially problematic elements. The ML's behavior, described by some as "stalker-ish," raised a few red flags. While some find his jealousy and possessiveness cute, I can see how it could be interpreted as toxic, especially since he seems to follow the MC around. Some of his actions are portrayed as cute, but they are not cute at all. This is scary, because in real life nothing good would await this couple. Gong is obsessed with the hero's appearance, he is jealous of him for every (literally) person he talks to, he constantly stalks him. The ML seems homophobic at first and also in many little instances. I could not see any semblance of real feelings of ML for the MC. All I get from the story is how h**ny he gets by looking every body part of MC.
