Description
In the second year of her marriage, Wen Yang discovered that Cheng Yanyu was having an affair with a woman two years older than him. This woman was elegant, intelligent, and had guided him in business, helping him succeed. They shared everything, with nothing left unspoken between them. She was poised, respectful of boundaries, and never demanded attention or favor, yet Cheng Yanyu was madly in love with her, treating her as his ideal, wanting to present the world to her feet. Meanwhile, from the moment Wen Yang discovered the affair and investigated, she felt utterly defeated. Cheng Yanyu’s eyes were now filled only with the other woman. Wen Yang had assumed this woman was simply someone interfering with her marriage. To her surprise, the woman was already married, and her husband was an incredibly wealthy and attractive man. To address her marriage, Wen Yang reached out to the woman’s husband, Fu Xingzhou. 1. The male lead is Fu Xingzhou. 2. An intense and emotionally charged narrative. 3. A story of mature adults, with the development between the main leads occurring after divorce. Translator’s Note: After discovering her husband cheating on her with a married woman, Wen Yang reached out to the mistress’ husband to discuss their spouse’s affairs. This is a story about a housewife’s growth after divorce and how she was able to move on and be happy with the help of her friends, her new career and new love. It’s a bit angsty at first, but the story progresses happily and ends on a happy note. The second husband is doting. The cheating spouses gets their face slaps.

My Thoughts on The Second Year After Marriage
"The Second Year After Marriage" is a novel that really took me on an emotional journey. It explores the complexities of marriage, betrayal, and finding yourself again after heartbreak. While it has some flaws, its strengths in character development and mature romance make it a worthwhile read, in my opinion.
First Impressions
Initially, I wasn't sure if I'd connect with the female lead, Wen Yang. Some readers found her a bit too naive and dependent at the beginning. Her world revolved around her husband, and she seemed almost childlike in her reliance on him. However, her reaction to her husband's affair completely changed my perspective. The author really nailed the initial shock and devastation.
What Works Well
What I appreciated most was Wen Yang's growth throughout the story. She doesn't wallow in self-pity but instead embarks on a journey of self-discovery and independence. I found her decision to pursue her own interests and career path inspiring. Also, the slow-burn romance with Fu Xingzhou, the male lead, felt refreshing. He's depicted as a mature, supportive partner who respects her boundaries and admires her strength. Their relationship felt like a true partnership, which was a welcome change from her previous dynamic. The novel also excels in its portrayal of realistic relationships. The ex-husband isn't demonized; he's portrayed as a flawed but ultimately decent person who made a mistake. The story emphasizes personal growth and moving forward rather than dwelling on revenge, which I found quite satisfying.
Areas of Concern
I can see why some might find the "perfect" nature of the FL a bit unrealistic. It's true that after her divorce, life seems to fall into place a little too easily for her. She excels in a new career with seemingly no challenges, and everyone around her is incredibly supportive. I also noticed that some found the comparisons to other women and emphasis on her "purity" to be somewhat misogynistic, and I can understand that viewpoint.

Final Verdict
Overall, I found "The Second Year After Marriage" to be an engaging and emotionally resonant novel. While it has some flaws in its portrayal of female characters and a slightly unrealistic plot, its strengths in character development, mature romance, and emphasis on personal growth make it a worthwhile read. I would recommend it to those who enjoy dramas with a focus on relationships and self-discovery.
