This novel is quite the rollercoaster! I dove in expecting a sweet romance, and while it definitely delivers on that front, it also threw some unexpected curves my way. It's a story about Qiao Zhenzhen and Chi Shen, and their journey is anything but ordinary.
First Impressions
Initially, I was charmed by the cuteness of the main leads, especially during their school days. The premise is intriguing: a devoted female lead pursuing a male lead who is, shall we say, uniquely devoted. It's a bit of a role reversal, and I found myself immediately invested in seeing how their relationship would unfold.
What Works Well
The early parts of the story, focusing on their high school life, are genuinely delightful. Their chemistry is palpable, and the author does a great job of portraying their devotion to each other. I particularly appreciated the female lead's proactive approach and how she navigates the male lead's… intense personality. The romance is definitely a major draw, and it's easy to get swept up in their sweet moments. The author wrote a sweet and loving romance that kept me reading on.
Areas of Concern
However, I do have some reservations. I found the latter half of the story to be somewhat frustrating. There's a significant time skip, and the introduction of unnecessary drama, particularly a prolonged separation, felt jarring and out of place. I, like many readers, found the "CEO chasing the wife" trope tired and unnecessary. It detracted from the established dynamic between the leads and introduced conflict that felt forced. Also, the ending felt a bit incomplete, leaving me with unanswered questions.
