"The Male God Became Coquettish After Marriage" is quite the rollercoaster. I went in expecting a fluffy romance, but it turned out to be a much more emotionally complex story with some genuinely dark moments. Overall, I found it enjoyable, but it definitely has its flaws.
First Impressions
The premise itself is intriguing: an arranged marriage between a seemingly aloof male god and our introverted MC. Initially, I was a bit bored. The beginning felt slow, and the characters seemed to exist on a superficial level. The ML's transition from detached to doting felt rushed and a little unbelievable, but I kept reading, hoping for more.
What Works Well
What really grabbed me was the emotional depth the story eventually reached. The MC, Huai, is a genuinely kind and courageous character, even if he lacks self-confidence. The ML, Wei, is patient and supportive, and their relationship, while initially rocky, becomes quite sweet. I appreciated how devoted Wei was to Huai, even if he was a bit childish at times. The story explores themes of self-love, healing from trauma, and building a family, which resonated with me.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel does have some significant issues. The pacing is uneven, and the writing can be confusing, with abrupt transitions and flashbacks that disrupt the flow. I also felt that some plot points, like the MC's relationship with his long-lost brother, felt forced and underdeveloped. Some readers might find the lack of communication between the main characters frustrating, especially during the darker parts of the story. Also, there were some missed opportunities with the side characters, I wish they were more fleshed out.
