"The Devil’s Evolution Catalog" is a web novel that certainly took me on a rollercoaster ride. It's a story of reincarnation, monster evolution, and army building, but it's not without its quirks and flaws. After diving deep into this story, here's my honest take.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked. The premise of a reincarnated protagonist struggling to improve himself, even after repeated failures, was compelling. I appreciated the early focus on his human life and the motivations driving him. Seeing him grapple with his shortcomings and strive for something more resonated with me, making the initial chapters a strong point. However, the transition after his second reincarnation as a devil imp is where things got dicey.
What Works Well
The world-building is a definite strength. The author paints a vivid picture of the hellish landscape and the various demonic factions vying for power. I found the concept of the MC needing souls for evolution and gaining unique magic to be intriguing. The author also attempts to give the elite members of the MC's army distinct personalities. Some readers also appreciate the author's notes and how they add to the story.

Repetition is a significant issue. Many readers have pointed out the repetitive nature of the battles and the MC's strategies. The joke about the MC's androgynous appearance also wears thin quickly.
