Okay, so I dove into "The Demon King of the Frontier Life..." with a decent amount of curiosity, mostly because that title is quite the mouthful! I was hoping for something that might subvert the usual reincarnation tropes, but I came away with mixed feelings.
First Impressions
Initially, I was cautiously optimistic. The premise – a former Demon King getting a second chance at life and wanting to understand humans – had potential. The early chapters did a decent job of setting up the protagonist's naivete and his desire for connection. There was a glimmer of hope that this story would explore some interesting themes about prejudice and understanding.
What Works Well
The main character's initial innocence is definitely a plus. His fish-out-of-water experiences as he tries to navigate human society are mildly amusing, and there's a certain charm to his eagerness to learn. The story also sets up a world with some interesting magic systems.
