My Thoughts on The Daily Struggle of a Corporate S*ave
"The Daily Struggle of a Corporate S*ave" definitely took me by surprise. Going in, I expected a lighthearted office romance, maybe a bit of comedy. What I got was a deeply emotional and surprisingly realistic story that explores grief, personal growth, and the complexities of relationships. This novel isn't afraid to delve into darker themes, and while it has its romantic moments, it's far from a fluffy, feel-good read.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were a bit jarring. The synopsis gives off a completely different vibe than the actual story. I found myself thrown into a world of constant hardship for the MC, Jing Ciying, while the ML, at first, seemed oblivious and self-centered. It was a tough start, and I wasn't sure if I'd continue.
What Works Well
What ultimately kept me hooked was the character development, especially that of the ML. He starts as this almost cartoonishly clueless boss, expecting his secretary to cater to his every whim. However, the author does a fantastic job of showing his growth and transformation as he realizes his feelings for the MC and actively tries to become a better person. I also appreciated the strong platonic relationships in the story, particularly the bond between the MC and another male character. It added depth and a sense of realism to the narrative. The side stories were also incredibly well-written, adding another layer of depth to the story.
Areas of Concern
I did find a few moments frustrating. There's a particular scene where the MC's sister is in critical condition, and the ML withholds leave until the MC explains why he needs it. While I understand the author was trying to highlight the MC's reluctance to burden others, it felt like a forced conflict and a miscommunication that could have been easily avoided. Also, I was a bit uncomfortable with the MC's reaction to his grandpa's violent reaction to the ML's coming out.

Despite its darker elements and occasional frustrations, "The Daily Struggle of a Corporate S*ave" is a compelling and ultimately rewarding read. It's a story about overcoming adversity, learning to rely on others, and finding love in unexpected places. If you're looking for a novel that will make you laugh, cry, and think, I highly recommend giving this one a try. Just be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster!
