Description
Callius von Jervain. A character who dies no matter what he does. A character who falls into a forced choice route where he can only die, no matter his choices up to that point. However, there is a single route where the character can live and play the game. And I have to carve out that route somehow. Because I’ve become Callius von Jervain in the game.

My Thoughts on Sword Pilgrim
"Sword Pilgrim" has been quite the ride, and after diving deep into it, I've got some thoughts to share. It's a novel that clearly evokes strong reactions, both positive and negative, and I can definitely see why.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise – a writer transmigrated into his own game world. That's a hook that always gets me. The early chapters were intriguing, setting up a dark, medieval-esque world with a unique religious system involving turning the dead into weapons. I was ready for a grimdark adventure, and for a while, it delivered.
What Works Well
The protagonist, Callius, is a definite highlight. He's cunning, pragmatic, and not overly concerned with maintaining a pristine image. He gets things done, and that's refreshing. Many seem to enjoy his personality, finding him likeable without being an over-the-top jerk. The established goal of taking down the Empire, which only allows its single religion and persecutes other religions, provides a strong narrative drive, avoiding the aimless power-grinding that plagues some similar stories. I also appreciated the unpredictable nature of the plot. Characters you expect to become major players can unexpectedly be killed off, and minor characters can stick around.
Areas of Concern
However, I also encountered some issues. Several readers pointed out inconsistencies in the plot and character motivations. There are moments where Callius's actions seem to contradict his established backstory, lacking a clear foundation. The convenience of plot armor, where the MC gets new skills out of thin air when he is about to die can be an issue, as well as the MC claiming he has not much talent for the sword, but he can still execute the most legendary sword style first try without any prior practice to defeat an enemy stronger than him. The war sequences can also be a little underwhelming, with the MC single handedly changing the course of the battle through luck.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Sword Pilgrim" is a worthwhile read, especially if you're looking for a dark fantasy with a cunning protagonist and an interesting world. However, be prepared for some inconsistencies and a potentially divisive ending. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
