Description
Mr. Jin agreed to take care of his hometown friend’s son, never expecting that the friend would die unexpectedly. The boy became an orphan and was renamed Jin Chao. Three years later, Mr. Jin’s wife, Mrs. Jiang, became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter named Jin Mu. The overwhelming pressure of life caused increasing tension between the couple. When Jin Mu was nine years old, her parents agreed to divorce. She went to live with her mother in the south, while Mr. Jin took Jin Chao to a small city in the north. From then on, they were separated by thousands of miles, never to cross paths again. It wasn’t until Jin Mu turned 18, when Mrs. Jiang, along with her second husband, was preparing to immigrate, that Jin Mu was temporarily sent to live with her father and was reunited with Jin Chao, whom she hadn’t seen in nine years. Chao is the sun, Mu is the moon. Together, they shine brightly, day and night, in perfect harmony—morning after morning, night after night.

My Thoughts on Star Trails
"Star Trails" promised a heartwarming yet angsty romance, and for the most part, it delivered. The novel follows a childhood romance navigating separation, disability, and family disapproval, and while some aspects resonated deeply, others left me wanting more.
First Impressions
The initial chapters drew me in with the sweet depiction of young love and the slice-of-life elements of their school days. The "sibling" dynamic, while initially raising an eyebrow, quickly faded into the background as the story progressed. It felt like a unique starting point for a love story destined to overcome obstacles.
What Works Well
I particularly enjoyed the male lead, Jin Chao. His character is genuinely compelling, enduring significant hardship throughout the story. His devotion to the female lead, despite his circumstances, is admirable. The author excels at portraying his struggles and unwavering love, making him a character I rooted for from beginning to end. The ending, while bittersweet, ultimately provides a sense of closure and healing, especially regarding Jin Chao's relationship with his mother. Finding the extra chapter online where Jin Chao and Jiang Mu visit their mother in Australia was a touching addition, offering much-needed resolution.
Areas of Concern
However, the female lead, Jiang Mu, presented some frustrating aspects. Her repeated doubts and insecurities, particularly after reunions with Jin Chao, felt repetitive. There were times when her reactions seemed immature, especially considering the sacrifices Jin Chao made. The novel often circled the same conflict – Jiang Mu questioning Jin Chao’s commitment due to his lack of contact – which became tedious despite the relatively short chapter count. I also wished the story explored the parents' reactions to the couple's final union more deeply, especially the mother's initial disapproval.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Star Trails" is a decent read with a touching central romance and a compelling male lead. While the female lead's character and repetitive conflicts detracted from the experience, the heartwarming ending and Jin Chao's journey make it a worthwhile read for those who enjoy angsty romance with a touch of slice of life. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
