It's a bit of a "sink or swim" start, and I could see some readers being turned off by the lack of immediate explanation. I appreciated the mystery, but I also felt like I was missing crucial context.

One of the strongest aspects is the world-building. The author creates a complex universe with numerous factions and intricate politics. I also appreciated the large cast of characters.
