The idea of a character who embraces manipulation and scheming, not for some grand, noble cause, but for cold, hard cash, was refreshing. I was eager to see how her antics would play out in a xianxia setting. And for the first few dozen chapters, I was hooked.

What Works Well

The humor is a major draw. Watching Lin Xiaocha navigate the world with her "innocent" act, cleverly playing with the male leads' affections while tearing down the "white lotus" characters, is genuinely entertaining. The plot is fast-paced, and the romance, while morally questionable, definitely has its steamy moments. I also appreciated that the original abused heroine, Lin Wu, isn't just a damsel in distress. I also found the ending to be somewhat problematic, especially the way she forced the male lead to cut his hair.
