My Thoughts on Ring Ring
"Ring Ring" is a completed shoujo fantasy that certainly left me with mixed feelings. It's a quick read at only 36 chapters, but whether that's a blessing or a curse depends on your tolerance for slow-burn romance and a somewhat naive protagonist. The premise is intriguing, and the core of the story is sweet, but the execution has some definite drawbacks.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn in by the idea of a modern woman transported to a fantasy world. The initial chapters piqued my interest, and I was eager to see how the protagonist, Shiori, would navigate this new and unfamiliar environment and, of course, reunite with her knight.
What Works Well
The central theme of longing and devotion between Shiori and her knight is undoubtedly the strongest aspect of the novel. You can feel the depth of their feelings for each other, even when they're separated. I found myself rooting for them, hoping they'd overcome the obstacles in their path. There's a certain fairytale quality to the story that's undeniably charming.
Areas of Concern
My main issue lies with the pacing. The story drags significantly, especially in the first half. The leads don't reunite until chapter 30, which feels excessive given the novel's length. This delayed gratification, while intended to build anticipation, ultimately led to frustration. I also found Shiori's naivete a bit grating at times. Her lack of common sense in certain situations strained my suspension of disbelief and made it difficult to fully connect with her character.

Final Verdict
"Ring Ring" is a sweet, albeit flawed, story. If you enjoy slow-burn romance with a focus on longing and are willing to overlook a naive protagonist and deliberate delays, you might find it a charming and heartwarming read. However, if you prefer fast-paced plots and strong, assertive female leads, this novel might not be for you. I'd give it a tentative 3.5 out of 5 stars.
