My Thoughts on Remarry
"Remarry" promised a healing journey with a touch of historical romance, and while it delivered on some fronts, I found myself a bit conflicted by the end. It's a story with a lot of heart, but some inconsistencies kept it from reaching its full potential.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn in by the premise: a divorced woman in a historical setting finding love again. The initial chapters had a directness that I appreciated, and the female lead, Lu Minghua, struck me as intelligent and sensible. I was ready for a story of resilience and self-discovery.
What Works Well
The romance is undeniably sweet. Prince Rui, Yan Yuanhua, is a devoted and supportive male lead. His actions are refreshingly considerate, and his love for Lu Minghua feels genuine. Many readers praised his unwavering support and patience as she healed from her past. I also appreciated the focus on family relationships, especially the contrast between Lu Minghua's toxic birth family and the warm, accepting environment she finds later on. The author excels at creating a lighthearted atmosphere, avoiding the heavy political intrigue that often bogs down historical novels. This makes it a pleasant and easy read.
Areas of Concern
As the story progressed, I found myself struggling with the female lead's character development. While her past trauma explains her initial resistance to Yan Yuanhua's advances, it felt like she remained stubbornly detached for too long. This imbalance in the relationship became frustrating. I also felt like the story resolved too many of her problems for her, rather than allowing her to actively build a new life. I also found the characterization of the sister to be a bit over the top, and the characterization of the female lead to be inconsistent with how she was first presented.

"Remarry" is a sweet and lighthearted read that focuses on healing and romance. While the male lead is a green flag, the female lead has some inconsistencies that hurt the story. If you're looking for a low-stakes historical romance with a devoted male lead and an emphasis on emotional healing, you might enjoy this. However, be prepared for some character inconsistencies and a plot that sometimes prioritizes convenience over depth. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars.
