My Thoughts on Rebirth – City Cultivation
"Rebirth – City Cultivation" had a premise that initially intrigued me: a powerful cultivator returning to Earth with a second chance. However, after diving in, I found myself conflicted, echoing the sentiments of many other readers.
First Impressions
The beginning felt promising. The idea of an overpowered MC navigating the modern world, armed with his past-life knowledge, held a certain appeal. I was ready for a tale of growth and maybe some satisfying face-slapping along the way.
What Works Well
The sheer power of the main character is undeniably a draw. When he's dealing with enemies, the dominance is absolute and, admittedly, quite entertaining. There's a certain wish-fulfillment aspect to watching him dismantle arrogant foes who underestimate him. If you're primarily seeking a power fantasy, this novel delivers that in spades. Some readers might appreciate the manhua adaptation, which apparently skips some of the more tedious filler content.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the repetitive nature of the plot quickly wore thin. The cycle of the MC encountering arrogant individuals, hiding his identity, and then unleashing his power became predictable and, frankly, boring. The MC's arrogance, while initially part of the appeal, often crosses the line into being unlikeable and even short-sighted. His ruthlessness, at times, felt excessive, especially when directed at those who offered only minor offenses.
The "harem" tag feels misleading. While numerous women are introduced and often develop feelings for the MC, he rarely reciprocates, leading to wasted potential and frustrating character arcs. Some of the writing felt inconsistent, with characters' motivations and feelings changing abruptly without sufficient explanation. The author seems to dangle the promise of romance without any intention of delivering, which is disappointing.

Final Verdict
"Rebirth – City Cultivation" offers a dose of overpowered wish fulfillment, but its repetitive plot, unlikeable protagonist, and unfulfilled promises ultimately detract from the experience. While the action scenes can be satisfying, the overall lack of depth and character development left me wanting more. Ultimately, I'd recommend approaching this novel with caution and a healthy dose of skepticism.
