"Real Mother of the Wealthy Family’s Rebellious Son is Back" promised a heartwarming story of family, and for the most part, it delivered. I went in expecting fluffy slice-of-life moments, and that's largely what I got, with a touch of drama sprinkled in.
First Impressions
The premise immediately grabbed me: a time-traveling MC suddenly faced with a rebellious teenage son and a wealthy, older husband. It felt like a recipe for chaos and heartwarming reconciliation, and I was eager to see how the author would navigate these relationships.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in its characters, especially the rebellious son, Xie Heng. His journey from a standoffish teenager to an affectionate son was genuinely heartwarming. I loved seeing his tsundere personality shine through, and his interactions with his "real mother" were often the highlight of each chapter. The female lead, Lu Xi, is also a strong point. I appreciated that she was portrayed as emotionally intelligent and decisive, tackling conflicts head-on instead of dragging them out. Her "big sister" approach to parenting Xie Heng, especially at the beginning, felt natural and relatable, given her age and sudden circumstances. The male lead, too, was a pleasant surprise. He's depicted as mature, thoughtful, and willing to learn from his mistakes, which made him a genuinely likable character. The romance between him and Lu Xi was a nice bonus to the central mother-son relationship.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story overall, I did find myself occasionally wishing for more depth. The explanation for the MC's time travel felt somewhat glossed over, leaving me with unanswered questions. Also, while Xie Heng's character was endearing, there were times when he seemed a bit too innocent for his age. I can also see where some readers might find the writing a little boring at times.
