My Thoughts on Raising Wolves
"Raising Wolves" promised a blend of political intrigue and a possessive romance, and after diving in, I can definitely say it delivered on some fronts, while stumbling a bit on others. It's the kind of story that kept me turning pages, eager to see what would happen next, even if I wasn't always completely comfortable with the journey.
First Impressions
The premise is certainly intriguing: a "sick beauty" teacher and the yandere student he raises. The initial setup had me hooked, and I was eager to see how their relationship would develop amidst palace schemes and power struggles. I'm a sucker for a good slow-burn romance, and the word count definitely suggested that's what I was in for!
What Works Well
The dynamic between the main characters, Lu Qingze and Ning Juan, is undeniably the driving force of the story. I appreciated the author's focus on their relationship, even if it sometimes overshadowed the political elements. The male lead's possessiveness, while potentially off-putting to some, is a key aspect of his character and drives much of the plot. The slow burn of their romance was well-paced. I also found the ending satisfying, which is always a plus after investing so much time in a story.
Areas of Concern
While the romance is central, I did find some aspects of it troubling. The ML's actions definitely toe the line, and at times, cross over into uncomfortable territory. The power imbalance is significant, and the MC's willingness to continually compromise his boundaries can be frustrating. Additionally, while the palace schemes add a layer of complexity, they occasionally became confusing and felt like a backdrop rather than an integral part of the narrative.
