At the same time, the country of Hinoo has decided to start a war with Gameria, who is trying to take Hinoo for themselves with money and force. My Thoughts on Propeller Opera
"Propeller Opera" promised a grand stage of war, royalty, and romance, and while it delivered on some fronts, other aspects left me wanting more. It's a completed original story, currently being translated, and I dove in with high hopes, eager to see what this aerial fantasy had to offer.
First Impressions
The initial chapters certainly grabbed my attention, painting a picture of a world embroiled in conflict, fueled by advanced aerial technology. The protagonist's backstory is intriguing – a fallen royal, betrayed and exiled. This setup had the potential for a compelling revenge narrative or a story of redemption. I was ready to see how he would rise above his circumstances.
What Works Well
The world-building is a strong point. The descriptions of the fleet battles are vivid and engaging, and the blend of military strategy with fantasy elements is well-executed. The author clearly put thought into the mechanics of this world. I also found the female lead to be well-developed and engaging, and the romantic elements, while perhaps not central, were a welcome addition to the overall plot.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find some aspects of the story less satisfying. The protagonist's treatment by his former kingdom, despite his obvious intelligence and potential threat, felt a bit contrived. This lack of foresight on the part of his enemies stretched my suspension of disbelief. I also felt that the emotional impact of the betrayal wasn't fully explored, leading to a slight disconnect with the protagonist's motivations.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Propeller Opera" is a decent read, particularly if you enjoy military fantasy with a touch of romance. While it has its flaws, the engaging world-building and action sequences make it a worthwhile experience. I'd recommend it with the caveat that you might need to suspend your disbelief regarding some of the plot contrivances. It's a solid 3.5/5 stars from me.
