Description

So Risha, who has no interest in the Duke of Lindbeld whatsoever, was selected. Risha put forward one condition for the marriage. She said that she would marry him if he provided her with three meals, a nap, and a minimum standard of living. In fact, Risha was always busy and sleep-deprived as a result of her father and step-mother’s work. She’d be free from this busyness! How wonderful! She married with tears in her eyes!

This novel, with its promise of a Cinderella-esque story and cozy slow-life vibes, certainly grabbed my attention. The premise alone – a protagonist seeking a simple life of comfort – is incredibly appealing. However, diving into Promise Me a Life With Three Meals and a Nap, Duke proved to be a bit of a rollercoaster.
First Impressions
Initially, I was charmed. The setup is well-executed, and the writing style is easy to get lost in. I immediately felt sympathy for Risha, the female lead, and I was eager to see her escape her difficult circumstances. The "European ambience" is definitely present, adding to the overall allure of the story.
What Works Well
The initial hook is strong, and the author does a good job of establishing Risha's character and her desire for a peaceful existence. I found the writing to be quite good, and the translation seems to be handled well, making for a smooth reading experience. Also, the prologue structure is unique and keeps you invested in the story's progression.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, my enjoyment waned as the story progressed. The Duke, who is supposed to be the male lead, became increasingly difficult to root for. His actions often felt contradictory to the initial promise of the story, and I found myself questioning his motives. Several readers have pointed out that the Duke's behavior borders on manipulative, and I can understand that sentiment. It felt as if the promised "three meals and a nap" were being used as bait, and the more Risha tried to settle into her new life, the more obstacles were thrown her way. The lack of communication between the main characters also became a significant source of frustration.

Promise Me a Life With Three Meals and a Nap, Duke has a lot of potential, and the initial chapters are genuinely engaging. However, the problematic portrayal of the male lead and the lack of clear communication between the characters ultimately detracted from my overall enjoyment. While the writing and translation are well-done, the story's core romance falls short. I'd recommend approaching this novel with caution, as the "three meals and a nap" might not be as readily available as they seem.
