I finally took the plunge into Ding Mo's "Pristine Darkness," and I have to say, it was quite the ride. Knowing it was a sequel to "When He Comes, Close Your Eyes," I was prepared for a continuation of Bo Jinyan and Jian Yao's story, but I wasn't quite ready for the emotional depths it explored.

While I thoroughly enjoyed "Pristine Darkness," I can see why some readers might find it less satisfying than the first book. The mystery aspect sometimes felt secondary to the romance, and some of the later villains weren't as compelling as those in the earlier arcs. I also felt that some side characters were deserving of more attention.
