"Pearl Throat" is definitely a novel that left me with a lot to unpack. Jumping into a story tagged with "abusive characters" and "aggressive characters" is never going to be a walk in the park, but I was still surprised by the depths of the characters and the morally gray world they inhabit.
First Impressions
From the get-go, the atmosphere is thick with tension and a certain unsettling allure. The premise is intriguing, and I was immediately drawn in by the promise of complex relationships and a protagonist who isn't your typical hero. The tags certainly set the stage, but experiencing it firsthand is a different beast altogether.
What Works Well

The author does a fantastic job of crafting these flawed individuals and putting them in situations that test their limits.
Areas of Concern
One of the biggest sticking points for me was the ambiguity of the relationship between the MC and ML. It's hard to decipher whether it's genuine affection or just a twisted form of admiration and control. This ambiguity permeates the entire story, leaving many questions unanswered. I was left wanting more clarity on the motivations of both characters and a deeper understanding of their connection.
