Initially, I was drawn in by the unusual setup. The idea of a female protagonist navigating the intricacies of court politics while married to a eunuch was definitely intriguing. I was curious to see how the author would handle the romance aspect, given the male lead's… limitations. The early chapters promised a story with a good pace and a charming female lead.
What Works Well
The characters are a major draw. The female lead, Jiang Yunshu, is witty and resilient, adapting to her new life with a modern mindset. I especially appreciated how she didn't let societal norms dictate her actions. The male lead, Xie Lin, is a more complex character. He's intelligent, detail-oriented, and surprisingly thoughtful, but also carries the baggage of a difficult past. This internal conflict makes him a compelling, if sometimes unsettling, figure. The plot itself, while not overly complex, moves at a good pace. It's easy to get invested in the characters and their relationships, and I found myself wanting to know what would happen next.
