My Thoughts on Lord of End of World

"Lord of End of World" certainly proved to be...an experience. Diving into this apocalypse-harem novel, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and honestly, the reality was a mixed bag. There are elements I genuinely enjoyed, but also some glaring issues that held it back from being a truly great read.

First Impressions

The premise is undeniably intriguing: a cultivation expert from another world transmigrates into a modern, zombie-infested Earth. The initial chapters hooked me with the promise of an overpowered MC navigating a dangerous new reality. The action sequences are well-paced, and the early world-building is compelling.

What Works Well

I particularly appreciated the MC's strength and proactive nature. He isn't a damsel in distress; he takes charge and protects those around him. I also enjoyed the author's writing style. The story moves at a good pace, and the fight scenes were descriptive and easy to follow. Some will love the harem aspect, especially with the spicy scenes. The concept of an MC who is a 'wan ren mi' (someone everyone falls in love with) can be fun if you enjoy that trope.

Areas of Concern

However, I found myself struggling with some of the characterizations. The MC, while powerful, often comes across as overly naive, which feels jarring considering his traumatic past. This naiveté is often used as a justification for the male leads' attraction, which can feel a bit…uncomfortable, especially given the MC's age.

The treatment of the MC's sister is another significant sticking point. Many readers, including myself, found her character arc frustrating. She's portrayed as unsympathetic, despite having valid reasons for her distrust and actions based on her past-life experiences. The double standards applied to her versus the MC are quite noticeable.

Final Verdict

"Lord of End of World" is a novel with potential, but it stumbles in its execution. If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed apocalypse story with an overpowered MC and don't mind some questionable character dynamics and plot inconsistencies, you might find enjoyment here. However, if you're sensitive to double standards, problematic character portrayals, and plot holes, this might not be the novel for you. Ultimately, it's a guilty pleasure read that I can't wholeheartedly recommend.
