My Thoughts on Back to the Apocalypse
"Back to the Apocalypse" promised a thrilling blend of genres, and while it delivered on some fronts, it stumbled in others. As a sucker for a good apocalypse story with a unique twist, I was eager to dive in. However, my experience was a bit of a rollercoaster.
First Impressions
The initial premise is undeniably captivating: a reborn MC armed with future knowledge and psychic powers, determined to survive the zombie apocalypse alongside his past-life savior. I was immediately drawn in by the potential for a dark and badass story. The early chapters focused on the MC's preparations were fascinating, showcasing his resourcefulness and growing obsession with the ML.
What Works Well
Many readers, including myself, enjoyed the initial world-building and the MC's efforts to prepare for the impending apocalypse. The dynamic between the MC and ML, while sometimes problematic, also had its appeal. I appreciated the moments of tenderness and the slow-burn romance that developed between them. The story also had pretty great pacing and was able to balance the plot with the romance.
Areas of Concern
However, as the story progressed, I encountered several issues that detracted from my enjoyment. The MC's character development felt inconsistent at times, with some readers finding him to be increasingly "b*tchy" and "selfish." The ML's possessiveness and, in some interpretations, abusive behavior, also raised red flags for me. It was also disappointing to see the author leave so many loose ends untied.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Back to the Apocalypse" is a mixed bag. While it offers an intriguing premise, engaging characters, and a unique blend of genres, it ultimately falls short due to inconsistencies in character development, problematic relationship dynamics, and an abrupt ending. If you're willing to overlook these flaws and enjoy a fast-paced, somewhat flawed apocalypse story with a yaoi twist, it might be worth a read. However, proceed with caution and be prepared for a potentially frustrating experience.
