My Thoughts on Legged Mimic
"Legged Mimic" is a quirky fantasy novel that certainly grabbed my attention with its unusual premise: a female mimic (treasure chest monster) gains legs and embarks on an adventure. The blend of comedy, game elements, and a non-humanoid protagonist promised a refreshing take on the isekai genre. However, my overall experience was a bit of a mixed bag.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are undeniably bizarre. The scene where the mimic acquires high heels from a... let's say "eccentric" individual is certainly memorable. I found myself intrigued by the protagonist's initial weakness and her desperate attempt to escape. The writing style, a rambling first-person narrative, is typical of many Japanese web novels, and while it wasn't inherently bad, it does take some getting used to.
What Works Well
The novel's greatest strength lies in its comedic elements and unique concept. The idea of a treasure chest monster struggling to navigate the world on newly acquired legs, while dealing with the absurd situations she finds herself in, is genuinely funny. It feels like a lighthearted, less dark version of reincarnation stories with monsters. I also appreciated the game-like elements woven into the narrative, which added a layer of progression and strategy to the story.
Areas of Concern
My biggest concern is the lack of translated content and the author's potential tendency to drop projects. The novel has a limited number of chapters available, and the translation quality could use some improvement, with some repetition and awkward phrasing. The limited content makes it difficult to fully invest in the story or become attached to the characters, knowing that it might not be completed.

Final Verdict
"Legged Mimic" has a lot of potential. The unique premise, comedic tone, and game elements make it an enjoyable read. However, the limited amount of translated content and the possibility of the story being dropped make it difficult to fully recommend. If you're looking for a short, quirky, and unique comedy isekai and don't mind the risk of an incomplete story, then give it a try. Otherwise, you might want to wait and see if more chapters are translated before diving in.
