My Thoughts on Jiu Shen

"Jiu Shen" – God of Wine – is a xuanhuan novel with a twist. Instead of focusing solely on cultivation, it weaves in the art of bartending, a unique concept that immediately grabbed my attention. Having delved into the available chapters, I can see why it garners both praise and some reservations.

First Impressions

The initial chapters are heavily focused on world-building, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it can feel a bit slow. Our protagonist is reborn with his memories intact, a trope I'm familiar with, and quickly finds himself on the path to power. The bartending aspect is definitely a fresh take, acting as a vehicle for him to connect with others and gain opportunities. It's a clever way to avoid the typical "begging for mentorship" scenario often seen in these novels.

What Works Well

The world-building, once you get past the initial info dump, is actually quite interesting. The author clearly has a passion for wines and cocktails, and that enthusiasm shines through in the descriptions. I found myself intrigued by the magic system and the potential for the MC to use his knowledge of mixology to his advantage.
