My Thoughts on Isekai Risshiden
I dove into "Isekai Risshiden" with a mix of excitement and trepidation, given the buzz surrounding it. It's an isekai, so you know what you're getting into, right? Well, maybe not entirely. Here's my take after considering what others are saying too.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are a whirlwind. Our protagonist, a salaryman reborn, embraces his new life with almost alarming enthusiasm. I can see how some might find this jarring. It's a far cry from the angsty, reluctant heroes we often see in this genre. It's more like "I'm in another world! Time to become a blacksmith and a doctor!" There's a certain…directness to it all.
What Works Well
The pacing is undeniably fast. This is both a blessing and a curse, as I'll elaborate on later, but it does mean the story never really stagnates. Character growth, while rapid, is still present. The wife is honest to herself. The plot moves at a breakneck speed, throwing in elements like kingdom building, magic tool creation, and even otherworld technology. It's a chaotic mix, but if you're looking for a story that doesn't linger, this might be your cup of tea.
Areas of Concern
That rapid pacing, however, is a double-edged sword. While it keeps things exciting, it also leads to plot holes and a sense of things being rushed. The characters, while straightforward, can feel a bit…template-like. The heroine is not that good, as she's too familiar with the MC and is incompetent. It's like the author threw in a bunch of familiar isekai tropes—the elf encounter, the sudden romance, the master's death—without fully developing them. The story is like a fruit platter with beastkins, harems, god-like MC and kingdom wars. It introduces a lot of elements and then stops suddenly.

Final Verdict
"Isekai Risshiden" is a bit of a mixed bag. If you're looking for a quick, action-packed isekai with a carefree protagonist and a willingness to throw everything at the wall, you might enjoy it. However, if you prefer a more nuanced story with deeper character development and tighter plotlines, you might find yourself wanting more. It's a fun, if somewhat shallow, read. I'd say approach with tempered expectations and a willingness to embrace the chaos.
