My Thoughts on I’m The Vicious Cannon Fodder In The Book
"I’m The Vicious Cannon Fodder In The Book" promised a delightful mix of transmigration, rebirth, and court intrigue, and while it delivered on some fronts, it stumbled in others. Overall, I found it a fairly enjoyable read, but with some caveats.
First Impressions
The premise is undeniably captivating: a reborn MC armed with the knowledge of his past life, determined to rewrite his tragic ending and cherish his relationship with the ML. The initial chapters hooked me with the promise of revenge and a sweet, developing romance. Luo Shuyu, the MC, immediately grabbed my attention, and I was eager to see him navigate the treacherous political landscape.
What Works Well
The dynamic between Luo Shuyu and Li Mingjin (the ML) is definitely a highlight. Their relationship is genuinely sweet, and I appreciated that the story avoids unnecessary angst. The political drama, while not overly complex, is engaging enough to keep the plot moving. I particularly enjoyed how Luo Shuyu uses his wits and knowledge to outsmart the transmigrated antagonist, Shen Mingyun, and his system. The "little theaters" at the end of some chapters were a delightful addition, offering humorous and canon roleplay scenarios between the leads.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the novel isn't without its flaws. The translation quality is inconsistent, with some sections being difficult to understand. I also felt that the pacing could be improved. The story felt unnecessarily long, and the constant "running and catching" of Shen Mingyun became repetitive. Additionally, Shen Mingyun's characterization felt inconsistent, shifting from cunning to outright idiotic, which made the "face-slapping" less satisfying. I found the fat-shaming directed at Shen Mingyun distasteful and unnecessary.
