Description
Tale, a magical swordsman who is a member of the up-and-coming adventurer party “Sword of Wheat”, has always been troubled by the difference in ability between himself and the other party members. Thinking that this imbalance of abilities could one day endanger the entire party, he voluntarily announces his intention to leave the party. But no one allows him to do so because the party is made up of only his childhood friends. Fearing that he may face irreversible damage in the near future, Tale finally attempts to leave the party by faking his own death by pretending to fall down a cliff in a mountainous area where he is working for a client. But an unfortunate accident causes him to really fall down. Although he managed to avoid falling to his death, he found himself in a den of ferocious demons, and after fighting to the death, he had gained a level of strength that was a cut above his previous level when he left the mountain. When he returns to his home base, expecting to be able to party with everyone again, he finds his childhood friends there, who have fallen ill with despair at the thought of Tale’s death…

My Thoughts on I’m Aware That I’m a Burden, but I’m Not Allowed to Leave the Party, so I Tried to Disappear by Pretending to Jump off Into the Abyss, but I Really Fell I Become Deadly Strong in the Abyss While the Girls in the Party Are Sick With Despair
Okay, that title is definitely a mouthful, isn't it? Going into this, I was prepared for either a hilarious romp or a train wreck, and honestly, it might be a bit of both. This novel promises a blend of action, adventure, drama, fantasy, harem, romance, and slice of life, all wrapped up in a tragic bow. Let's dive in.
First Impressions
My first impression, based on the early chapters, was a bit shaky. The premise is… ambitious. Our protagonist, feeling like a burden, attempts a fake-out "disappearance" that goes horribly wrong. He ends up actually falling into a dangerous abyss. It's a setup ripe with potential, but the execution left me scratching my head.
What Works Well
The core concept of the protagonist growing stronger in isolation while his former party members suffer from his absence is intriguing. The potential for character development, both for the protagonist and the girls he left behind, is definitely there. I can see the appeal of the "harem romance" aspect for some readers, and the promise of a darker, more dramatic storyline could be compelling. There's a specific type of reader who enjoys the premise, and this novel may work for them.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the initial plausibility of the story. The protagonist's survival in the abyss, especially given his initial perceived weakness, strains my suspension of disbelief. The explanation of him surviving off "native fruits" and getting stronger by fighting enemies felt incredibly rushed and convenient. It lacked the necessary world-building or magical explanation to make it believable. I found myself struggling to reconcile the protagonist's supposed weakness with his sudden ability to survive and thrive in such a harsh environment. The progression felt unnatural and forced, making it difficult to fully invest in the story. Also, the novel has a large number of tags which may make it difficult to appeal to a wide audience.
Final Verdict
I’m Aware That I’m a Burden, but I’m Not Allowed to Leave the Party, so I Tried to Disappear by Pretending to Jump off Into the Abyss, but I Really Fell I Become Deadly Strong in the Abyss While the Girls in the Party Are Sick With Despair has an interesting premise with a potential for growth and drama. However, the shaky execution, particularly in the early chapters, might be a stumbling block for many readers. If you're willing to overlook some significant plot contrivances and enjoy the harem romance aspect, you might find something to enjoy here. Otherwise, proceed with caution. I give it a tentative 3/5.
