My Thoughts on I’d Like to Scold the Capture Targets
First Impressions
"I’d Like to Scold the Capture Targets" promised a comedic take on otome game tropes, and I went in eager for some lighthearted fun. The premise of a mob character taking charge and calling out the ridiculous behavior of capture targets certainly piqued my interest. However, my reading experience was a bit of a rollercoaster, and not always in a good way.
What Works Well
The core concept is undeniably entertaining. The idea of a student council member, Akane, recognizing and reacting to otome game logic in her everyday life is inherently funny. There's a certain satisfaction in seeing her call out the brainless actions of those around her, especially within the context of a reverse harem scenario. The initial setup had me chuckling and anticipating more of this witty commentary. The action that she takes in the middle of this oneshot is commendable.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the execution falters significantly. My biggest issue, and one that seems to be shared by many, is the messy and confusing narrative flow. Akane's internal monologue often feels disjointed and rambling, making it difficult to follow her train of thought. The frequent perspective shifts, whether due to translation issues or the original writing style, further contribute to the confusion. It often felt like I was piecing together fragments of a story rather than enjoying a cohesive narrative.
Furthermore, while the initial premise is appealing, the ending seems to undermine the MC's actions. The story ultimately leads her down a path where she, too, ends up attracting a reverse harem, which feels like a contradiction of her initial goal of scolding the capture targets for their nonsensical behavior. The characters themselves also failed to resonate with me, making it difficult to fully invest in the story.

Final Verdict
"I’d Like to Scold the Capture Targets" has an intriguing premise and moments of genuine humor, but ultimately falls short due to its confusing narrative structure and somewhat contradictory ending. While the idea of a sassy mob character challenging otome game tropes is appealing, the execution leaves much to be desired. I'd recommend approaching this one with caution and a healthy dose of patience.
