I Want You To Be Widowed is a wild ride of a danmei novel, and I can definitely see why it's garnered a dedicated following. It mashes together so many tropes – interstellar adventure, mecha battles, alchemy, even a dash of wuxia – that it shouldn't work, but somehow, it mostly does.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are a whirlwind. The story throws you right into a complex world facing an invasion of transmigrators. It can feel a bit overwhelming at first, like you're trying to catch up with a plot that's already several steps ahead. However, if you stick with it, the narrative does find its footing.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its leads. The MC and ML have an undeniable chemistry, fueled by constant bickering and a shared determination. The ML is definitely the obsessive type, completely devoted to the MC, and the lengths he goes to for him are both heartwarming and slightly unhinged. The MC is no pushover either; he's strong-willed, disciplined, and more than capable of holding his own. Their dynamic is hilarious and engaging, and their relationship develops in a way that feels earned, despite the initial…unconventional circumstances.
The plot itself, while a bit messy, is undeniably creative. The blend of sci-fi, mecha combat, and even wuxia elements keeps things interesting, and the overarching mystery surrounding the transmigrators and the MC's past adds a layer of intrigue that kept me hooked.

The pacing and plot development could be more polished. There are moments where important details feel glossed over, or where character motivations seem to shift abruptly. The early chapters, in particular, feel a bit rushed, and some plot points could benefit from further fleshing out.
