- I Summoned the Hero, to the Present Age

Description
The black history notebook of my middle school days was sent from my parents’ home. While being nostalgic, as if I had made a proper magic circle, I summoned the Hero from another world. “–Who are you, an underling of the Demon King?” A story of struggling to return the hero who was summoned by mistake by a 25-year-old OL who should have completely cured her chuunibyou disease. Note : OL (オーエル) stands for Office Lady ( オフィスレディー), a japanese slang for female office worker (in Japan) who performs generally pink-collar tasks such as secretarial or clerical work. Office ladies are usually full-time permanent staff, although the jobs they perform usually have relatively little opportunity for promotion, and there is usually the tacit expectation that they leave their jobs once they get married.

My Thoughts on I Summoned the Hero, to the Present Age
"I Summoned the Hero, to the Present Age" sounded like a fun, quirky read, and honestly, it mostly delivered. The premise alone – a former chuunibyou accidentally summoning a real-life hero from another world – had me hooked. I dove in expecting a lighthearted romp, and for the most part, that's exactly what I got.
First Impressions
The story wastes no time getting started. We're immediately thrown into the protagonist's chaotic life as her past comes back to haunt her in the form of a very confused, very handsome hero. The initial chapters are filled with amusing misunderstandings and awkward interactions as she tries to figure out how to send him back where he came from. It's a fast-paced, energetic beginning that definitely grabs your attention.
What Works Well
The humor is definitely a strong point. The juxtaposition of a fantastical hero in a mundane, modern setting creates plenty of opportunities for comedic gold. The female lead is also quite relatable, especially if you've ever had a phase you'd rather forget. The romance, while subtly hinted at, adds a nice layer of sweetness to the overall story. It's a light and fluffy experience, perfect for when you're in the mood for something short and entertaining. The adult themes are present but don't overwhelm the story, adding a mature touch without being gratuitous.
Areas of Concern
My main issue lies with the pacing and the ending. Being only four chapters long, the story feels rushed. The character development, while present, could have been explored more deeply. The conclusion, in particular, feels abrupt and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. I was left wanting more closure and a more satisfying resolution to the central conflict. It feels like the story had the potential to be something truly special, but the short length prevented it from reaching its full potential.
Final Verdict
Overall, "I Summoned the Hero, to the Present Age" is an enjoyable, albeit brief, read. If you're looking for a quick dose of humor, romance, and fantasy, it's worth checking out. Just be prepared for a somewhat open-ended conclusion that might leave you wanting more. I'd rate it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. While it has its flaws, the charming premise and lighthearted tone make it a worthwhile experience.
