"I Don’t Want to Break off my Engagement…" promised a lighthearted shoujo romp, but after diving in, I found myself wrestling with mixed feelings. While some elements shone, the overall execution left me wanting more.
First Impressions
The initial premise – a noblewoman trying to wiggle out of an engagement – felt familiar and potentially fun. I was hoping for witty banter, clever schemes, and maybe a dash of romance. The tags suggested a blend of fantasy and adventure, which piqued my interest. I was ready to settle in for a cozy read.
What Works Well
Honestly, the translation seems to be a high point. Several readers praised its quality and readability. I also found the initial chapters intriguing, with the potential for a unique twist on the typical villainess story. The idea of transmigrators and magical beings hinted at a more complex world than I initially anticipated. Some readers even admitted to enjoying the train-wreck aspect of the story, finding it "adorably bad" in a way that kept them hooked.
