Description
As the apocalypse arrived, An Ran, a mother with no incredible powers, no space, and no husband, had only a bun in the oven that piteously cried for food and a wood based power over plants and flowers. Others robbed supplies and killed zombies, causing the apocalypse to flourish with excitement. She killed zombies for the sake of robbing baby formula, complementary foods, and toys. After doomsday, she lived a life of raising a baby with zombies blocking the road and being chased by her ex-husband. Ex-husband: “We divorced for 7 months and this baby was born at full-term. Do you still refuse to admit that the baby isn’t mine?” An Ran yelled uncontrollably: “Can’t it be the result of an affair?” Ex-husband: “Then was your partner my twin brother? Otherwise, how else is this kid’s nose, eyes, and lips exactly like mine?”

My Thoughts on How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse
I dove into "How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse" with a mix of excitement and trepidation, and after considering the scope of the novel, I've come away with some definite opinions. It's a story that grabs you from the start but might test your patience along the way.
First Impressions
The initial hospital arc is undeniably gripping. I was immediately invested in the MC, An Ran's, desperate struggle to protect her newborn daughter amidst the chaos of a zombie outbreak. The raw, visceral depiction of her post-partum struggles combined with her determination to reach her baby was incredibly compelling. This opening hooked me, and I was ready for a wild ride.
What Works Well
The world-building, particularly regarding the evolution of powers and mutations, is a strong point. I appreciated the creative twists on the typical element-based power system. An Ran's character is also a highlight. She's not a saint or a power-hungry tyrant, but a devoted mother with relatable flaws and decent morals. Her journey from a somewhat timid character to a capable survivor is believable and engaging. The story doesn't shy away from the gritty realities of survival, which adds to its authenticity. I also found the ex-husband plotline to be very interesting and added a lot to the story as well. I was hooked until the very end.
Areas of Concern
Despite the strong start, the story does seem to lose some momentum. The middle portion, focused on finding a safe haven, can feel a bit repetitive and drag on. I also felt that some side characters could have been more developed. The male lead did not grab my attention and I found myself disliking him. The romance also took a backseat which was not something that I really enjoyed.

Final Verdict
"How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse" is a solid read, especially if you're a fan of the genre. The initial thrill and the relatable MC make it worth checking out. However, be prepared for some pacing issues and potentially frustrating character dynamics. It's not a perfect novel, but it offers a unique and often compelling take on the apocalypse survival story, with a strong focus on the bond between a mother and her child. I would rate it a 3.5/5.
