"Honest Wife" is quite the rollercoaster, a novel that left me with a lot to unpack. It's a blend of genres, tackling heavy themes within an ABO world, and while it has moments of brilliance, it also stumbles in its execution.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued. The premise of omegas being marginalized and the MC fighting for their rights felt compelling. The early chapters drew me in with the promise of a complex plot and morally grey characters. I was ready for some intense drama, and "Honest Wife" certainly delivered on that front.
What Works Well
The characterization of the MC, Wen Mo, is a definite high point. I found him intelligent and his actions logical, given the messed-up world he inhabits. He's not overpowered, but he's resilient, and his struggles felt real. The exploration of freedom and the cages we willingly enter was thought-provoking. I also appreciated the raw emotion conveyed, particularly during Wen Mo's outbursts towards the ML. The author clearly knows how to tug at your heartstrings.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel's ambition seems to be its downfall. It felt like the author tried to juggle too many plot threads without fully committing to any of them. The shifting focus made the story feel disjointed at times. The ML's initial behavior is also a major sticking point. While character growth is expected, his actions cross a line for me, making it difficult to root for his redemption.

"Honest Wife" is an ambitious but flawed novel. While the MC's character and the exploration of societal themes are commendable, the disjointed plot and problematic ML hold it back.
