Based on the popular Vocaloid song . Rin, a young angel (presumed female, but angels don’t have clear genders) falls in love with a young human girl, Miku. My Thoughts on Himitsu – Kuro no Chikai
First Impressions
"Himitsu – Kuro no Chikai" immediately grabbed my attention with its unique blend of genres: drama, fantasy, gender bender, romance, and even a touch of tragedy. The premise alone – an angel falling for a human and undergoing a transformation – felt incredibly compelling. The "based on a song" tag also piqued my curiosity, hinting at a potentially poetic and emotionally charged narrative. I jumped in hoping for a touching love story with a supernatural twist, and for the most part, that's exactly what I got.
What Works Well
The heart of this story lies in the relationship between Rin and Miku. The initial dynamic, with Rin as an angel wounded and vulnerable, and Miku as the human who can see beyond the veil, is beautifully crafted. The conflict that arises when Miku reveals she's getting married adds a significant layer of emotional depth. Rin's subsequent decision to fall from grace and become human, specifically a male, to pursue Miku is a powerful act of devotion, and the exploration of identity and love in the face of such a drastic change is genuinely captivating. The author successfully builds a world where angels and humans can interact, and the supernatural elements are seamlessly integrated into the romance.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I do share some reservations about the ending. It felt somewhat vague and left me wanting more concrete answers about Rin's ultimate fate. I was left feeling a bit unsatisfied, wishing for a more definitive resolution to Rin's journey. Additionally, I felt that some plot threads were left dangling. Certain aspects of the lore, such as the reason behind Rin's former partner becoming a fallen angel, were hinted at but never fully explained. This created a sense of incompleteness, almost as if the story was meant to be part of a larger universe.

Final Verdict
Despite some lingering questions and a slightly vague ending, "Himitsu – Kuro no Chikai" is a worthwhile read. The core love story is touching and thought-provoking, and the gender bender element adds a unique layer of complexity. If you're looking for a short, emotionally resonant tale with supernatural elements and are comfortable with some unresolved plot points, I would recommend giving this novel a try.
