I jumped into this novel expecting a typical OP protagonist story, and while it delivers on that front, there's definitely more to unpack. It's got a unique premise that pulled me in, but it's not without its bumps in the road.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are undeniably exciting. The concept of a highway survival game is fresh, and the early treasure hunting aspect is genuinely engaging. I was immediately drawn to the MC, Wei Huan. He starts off strong, but he's still developing, and that made him relatable. I also appreciated the flaws in both Wei Huan and his love interest, Mu Zong. They're not saints, and their initial disagreements felt realistic.
What Works Well
I found the world-building to be a strong point. Each new area has its own distinct characteristics, keeping things interesting. The enemies are unique and challenging, requiring Wei Huan to rely on his team, which I appreciated. It's not just a solo show, and the author does a good job of highlighting the importance of unity. The action is constant, and the plot continues to move forward.
Areas of Concern
As the story progressed, I did start to notice some issues. Wei Huan's power level becomes almost too high, which lessened the tension for me. The treasure hunting aspect, which I initially loved, faded into the background as golden chests became commonplace.
