The idea of a "average everydude" mercenary in space, just trying to make a living and avoid trouble, sounded incredibly refreshing compared to the usual power fantasies. I dove in hoping for a relatable, down-to-earth sci-fi adventure.

What Works Well

The initial chapters really delivered on that promise. I enjoyed the portrayal of John Uzos as a seasoned mercenary who understands his limitations and plays it safe. Seeing him navigate the dangerous world of mercenary work with a pragmatic, almost cynical, attitude was compelling.
